Answers

By-law order cleanup — FAQs

What is a yard maintenance order?+

It's a notice from your city's by-law department saying the property doesn't meet the local yard or lot maintenance by-law — usually because of long grass, weeds, garbage or debris — and giving a date by which the work has to be done.

What happens if I miss the deadline on the order?+

Under Ontario's Municipal Act, cities can send their own contractor to clean and clear the land and charge the cost back to the owner, often adding it to the property taxes, along with any fines or administrative penalties. Hiring your own crew first is usually faster and gives you control of the cost.

Can you get the work done before my compliance date?+

In most cases, yes. Tell us the date on your order when you request a quote and we'll schedule around it. Call us for tight deadlines.

Do you handle commercial and rental properties?+

Yes. Most of these jobs are for commercial owners, landlords and property managers, including vacant lots and properties between tenants.

How much does a yard cleanup for a by-law order cost?+

It depends on the size of the area, how tall and thick the growth is, how much debris has to be hauled and disposed of, and how soon the deadline is. We give a free, itemized quote after seeing the order and photos.
